Retired Junior Accountant Jailed for Bribery in Odisha | Vigilance Court Convicts Ajit Kumar Mishra

Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: A Special Vigilance Court in Bhawanipatna has sentenced retired Junior Accountant Ajit Kumar Mishra to three years of simple imprisonment for demanding and accepting a bribe.

Mishra, who had retired from the office of the SDO, Electrical Sub-Division, Bhawanipatna, was also fined Rs 20,000 by the Special Judge, Vigilance.

According to case records, Mishra was charge-sheeted in Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 27 (dated 02.10.2019) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

He was accused of demanding and receiving Rs 5,000 from a consumer in exchange for reducing the latter’s electricity bill.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance announced that it will move the competent authority to stop Mishra’s pension, in line with rules governing corruption cases.

This judgment underscores the state’s continued crackdown on corruption and reinforces accountability among government employees, even after retirement.
