Retired Army Colonel killed in hit-and-run incident in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today) Feb 1: In a tragic incident, a retired Army Colonel lost his life after being hit by a speeding vehicle in the Niladri Vihar area of Odisha’s capital on Saturday morning. The victim, identified as 64-year-old Rabindra Kumar Behera, was a resident of Defence Colony and a doctor by profession.
The accident occurred around 5:30 am near the Shani Temple under Chandrasekharpur Police Station limits when Behera was returning home after his routine morning walk. A former officer of the Territorial Army, he was critically injured in the hit-and-run and left bleeding on the road as the vehicle sped away without stopping.
Local residents rushed to his aid and transported him to Capital Hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. His family members were informed, and a postmortem examination was conducted.
Following the incident, police visited the accident site and registered a case. A search operation has been launched to trace the vehicle and the driver responsible.
Authorities have begun examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the vehicle involved. Police have assured strict action against the culprit once identified.
