Red Fort Car Blast: 10 Dead, Delhi on High Alert as NSG, NIA Investigate

New Delhi, Nov 10, 2025 In a devastating incident that has shaken the national capital, a massive explosion occurred in a Hyundai i20 car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station at approximately 6:52 pm on Monday. The blast, which took place while the vehicle was halted at a red light, resulted in the deaths of at least 10 individuals and left 24 others critically injured.

Eyewitnesses described the explosion as “earth-shattering,” with nearby streetlights shattered and vehicles flung nearly 150 meters. The blast ignited multiple cars and shops, prompting the dispatch of 15 fire engines and emergency medical teams to LNJP Hospital, where eight victims were declared dead on arrival.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) teams are conducting a comprehensive probe. Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage and vehicle remains to determine the cause and perpetrators. Notably, no signs of nails, wires, or burn injuries were found on the victims, suggesting a complex explosive device.

Security has been ramped up across Delhi, with alerts issued for IGI Airport, Metro stations, and government buildings. Borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh are also on high alert. Mumbai Police have initiated nakabandi and random checks in response.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the situation and spoke with Amit Shah. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called the incident “deeply worrying,” demanding a swift and transparent investigation. Former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia urged citizens to maintain unity and calm.

As a precaution, the Chandni Chowk market will remain closed on Tuesday. Investigators are focusing on the vehicle’s registration and forensic evidence to uncover the motive behind the blast.
