Ravenshaw University Revokes Suspension of 10 Students Amid Ragging Controversy

Cuttack, July 22(OT Webdesk): In a significant reversal, Ravenshaw University has lifted the suspension of ten third-year undergraduate students previously accused of ragging at the East Hostel.

The decision follows mounting student protests and a lack of conclusive evidence linking the accused to any misconduct.

Initially, the university had directed the students to vacate the hostel after complaints of verbal abuse toward first-year residents. However, the situation escalated as the accused maintained their innocence, alleging coercion behind the complaints.

The controversy deepened when even the complainants publicly denied the incident, prompting widespread demonstrations outside the Vice Chancellor’s office.

Support poured in from both junior and senior hostel residents, urging the administration to reconsider its stance.

Responding to the unrest, the university’s Anti-Ragging Cell reviewed the case and found insufficient grounds for punitive action.

Chief Warden Sudarshan Mishra stated, “If complainants now deny the incident, we will conduct further inquiry.” The university emphasised its commitment to fair resolution and student welfare, leaving the door open for future investigation if new evidence emerges.
