PURI, (OT Webdesk)— The revered Srimandir (Jagannath Temple) is set to observe the sacred ritual of Banakalagi Niti on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
The temple administration has announced a temporary suspension of public darshan from 6:30 PM to 11:00 PM to preserve the sanctity of this age-old ceremony.
Banakalagi Niti, literally meaning “applying the forest,” is a traditional rite where natural colours and herbal pastes are applied to the facial features of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.
This spiritual rejuvenation symbolises devotion and divine renewal within the temple’s vibrant rituals.
Following the completion of the second bhog at the Bhog Mandap, the temple doors will be closed to devotees to facilitate the confidential conduct of the ritual.
Temple authorities have assured that all necessary preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and respectful execution of the ceremony.
Devotees and tourists are encouraged to plan their visits accordingly and honour the temple’s discipline and cultural heritage.
Srimandir continues to be a center of Odisha’s religious tradition, drawing millions of devotees from across the globe.
