Puri Rath Yatra 2026: Odisha CM Majhi Mourns Two Devotees’ Deaths, Announces Aid

The sacred Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Puri turned tragic as two devotees lost their lives during the grand procession.

A 60‑year‑old man reportedly suffered breathing difficulties, while a 35‑year‑old succumbed to suspected cardiac arrest.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the incidents and directed officials to provide immediate medical care to affected devotees.

He also announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased.

According to hospital authorities, six to seven devotees were admitted to Puri District Headquarters Hospital with health complications, most of whom recovered after treatment.

Officials clarified that there was no stampede, attributing the health issues to suffocation in the dense crowd.

Senior officials, including Advisor Prakash Mishra and Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, visited the hospital to oversee arrangements.

Emergency teams, medical staff, and police personnel were deployed across the festival route to ensure safety.

Post‑mortem examinations and police investigations are underway to confirm the exact causes of death.
