Puri New Year Security 2026: Odisha Police Plans for Massive Devotee Influx

Puri is set to witness a massive influx of devotees on New Year’s Day 2026, with lakhs expected to throng the Jagannath Temple for darshan.

To ensure smooth crowd management and safety, Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania chaired a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar, directing officials to implement robust security measures.

Key directives include orderly darshan inside the temple, strict traffic and parking management, enhanced patrolling along the Puri sea beach, and installation of CCTV cameras at major intersections.

Hotels and lodges will also face strict checks to prevent any untoward incidents.

Senior officers from intelligence, law and order, coastal security, modernisation, and Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate attended the meeting, while Puri SP and DIGs joined virtually.

The DGP emphasised courteous behaviour by police personnel and preparedness for emergencies, ensuring a safe and disciplined environment for devotees.

With coordinated efforts across departments, Odisha Police aims to deliver a peaceful and secure New Year celebration at one of India’s most revered pilgrimage sites.
