President Murmu Inspires Lawmakers in Historic Odisha Assembly Address
In a defining moment for Odisha’s political history, President Droupadi Murmu returned to the Assembly where her political journey began, delivering a powerful message of dignity, responsibility, and vision.
Murmu urged legislators to uphold decorum in speech and conduct, reminding them that the people’s trust is their greatest mandate.
Expressing gratitude for Lord Jagannath’s blessings and acknowledging her colleagues from earlier years, she reflected on Odisha’s rich legacy—from Emperor Ashoka’s transformation after the Kalinga War to the state’s maritime trade and anti‑colonial struggles.
Paying tribute to stalwarts like Harekrushna Mahatab and Biju Patnaik, Murmu emphasised continuity between Odisha’s past and its aspirations for the future.
She highlighted the growing representation of women in politics, noting the current woman Speaker as a symbol of India’s progress toward becoming a developed nation.
Looking ahead, Murmu called on lawmakers to treat Odisha’s advancement as a “life mission,” envisioning a prosperous state by 2036. “The people have sent you here with immense trust and expectations,” she reminded, urging them to bring smiles to citizens’ faces through responsible governance.
Her address was both a reflection on history and a roadmap for Odisha’s future, inspiring legislators to rise to the occasion and fulfil the aspirations of the people.
