President Murmu Highlights rural jobs, National Security initiatives in Budget session address

New Delhi, Jan 28 (UNI) At the commencement of the Budget session of Parliament, President Droupadi Murmu delivered a robust address emphasising the government’s commitment to rural development, employment generation, and national security.

She highlighted the recently enacted Viksit Bharat-G RAM G law as a cornerstone reform promising 125 days of guaranteed employment in rural areas.

“For employment and development in rural areas, Viksit Bharat-G RAM G law has been formed. With this new reform, there will be 125 days of employment guarantees in villages,” President Murmu declared, drawing enthusiastic applause from NDA-BJP MPs. However, opposition members stood in protest, demanding the withdrawal of the law.

The President also outlined significant strides made in reducing India’s dependence on foreign countries in the critical minerals sector, reflecting efforts to strengthen self-reliance. “Efforts are being made to reduce dependence on other countries in the critical minerals sector,” she stated.

Highlighting India’s growing global footprint, President Murmu noted, “The vision of ‘Make in India’ is reaching global markets,” underscoring the government’s push for enhanced manufacturing and export capabilities.

She also detailed key initiatives aimed at empowering youth and enhancing skill development: “One million youth are being trained in the field of AI, and one thousand ITIs are being made suitable for future needs.” The President proudly announced, “India has become the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem,” signaling the country’s dynamic entrepreneurial environment.

On national security, President Murmu reaffirmed the government’s resolve, explaining, “Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty is part of India’s fight against terrorism.” She also introduced “Mission Sudarshan Chakra,” a strategic project to bolster India’s defense capabilities, along with plans to establish 10 new factories in the semiconductor sector. Defence production is expected to exceed Rs 1.5 lakh crore.

Addressing women’s empowerment, the President said, “The number of Lakhpati sisters has crossed two crore; the aim is to quickly take it to three crore.” She emphasized that the nation is progressing with the mantra of women-led development.

Additional highlights included the government’s focus on social security, with 95 crore Indians now covered, record production in food grains and horticulture projected for 2024-25, and increased employment in the green sector.

President Murmu summed up the government’s vision for inclusive growth: “Farmers’ wellbeing remains the government’s utmost priority, and the country is steadily moving on the path of reform.”
