Pramod Bhagat’s Golden Comeback Ignites Hope for Indian Para Sports
In a stirring display of grit and determination, India’s para badminton icon Pramod Bhagat made a triumphant return to international competition by clinching gold in the Men’s Singles SL3 category at the China Para Badminton International 2025.
This victory marks a significant milestone in Bhagat’s career, following an 18-month hiatus due to anti-doping whereabouts failures that kept him out of the Paris Paralympics.
Facing Indonesia’s Muh Al Imran in the final, Bhagat staged a dramatic comeback after losing the first set 15-21. He rallied to win the next two sets 21-19 and 21-16, showcasing his trademark resilience and tactical brilliance.
Bhagat also secured a silver medal in Men’s Doubles alongside Sukant Kadam. The duo fought valiantly against fellow Indians Jagadesh Dilli and Naveen Sivakumar, narrowly missing gold in a three-set thriller.
“This gold medal is very special for me,” Bhagat said emotionally. “Coming back after 18 months and proving myself again is a priceless feeling. This is just the beginning of my comeback story.”
Celebrations erupted in Bhagat’s home state of Odisha, with the Para Sports Association of Odisha hailing his achievement as a beacon of hope for aspiring athletes. His performance not only reaffirms his legendary status but also highlights the growing global impact of Indian para athletes.
