Pattamundai Student Suicide: Prime Accused Arrested in Chennai After Months of Harassment

Kendrapada, (OT Webdesk)– August 8,: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested Pramod Behera, the prime accused in the tragic death of a young woman from Pattamundai, Kendrapada.

Behera, son of Ganeshwar Behera from Teroi village in Bilikana Panchayat, was apprehended in Chennai and brought back to Odisha for interrogation.

The victim, a student, allegedly took her own life after months of harassment and blackmail by her former boyfriend.

Reports suggest the accused had circulated obscene photos of the woman on social media and continued to threaten her after their relationship ended.

Despite the family’s attempt to file an FIR, the local ASI reportedly advised them to block the accused on social media instead of registering a formal complaint.

The harassment spanned over 7–8 months, culminating in the woman’s suicide by self-immolation using kerosene.

The arrest has sparked renewed calls for accountability in police response to cyber harassment and gender-based violence.
