Patient Killed in Oxygen Cylinder Blast Inside Ambulance at Odisha Hospital
Udala, Mayurbhanj: A critically ill patient lost his life after an oxygen cylinder exploded inside a private ambulance at Udala Sub-Divisional Hospital in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, triggering panic among patients, attendants, and hospital staff.
The deceased has been identified as Suyosh Barik, a resident of Kundabai village.
According to reports, his family had arranged a private ambulance to shift him from Udala Medical to a private healthcare facility in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
While preparations were underway for the transfer, flames suddenly erupted from an oxygen cylinder inside the ambulance as the oxygen supply was being connected.
Moments later, the cylinder exploded, engulfing the vehicle in flames.
People present near the ambulance rushed to rescue the patient and managed to pull him out of the burning vehicle.
However, he sustained severe burn injuries and succumbed shortly afterwards.
Witnesses reported that a second explosion occurred as the ambulance continued to burn.
The impact reportedly tore off the roof of the vehicle, causing injuries to nearby individuals.
Two people were critically injured in the incident.
Fire service personnel arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control.
The shocking incident created panic within the hospital premises and raised concerns over safety protocols involving oxygen cylinders and emergency medical transport vehicles.
Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the explosion and determine whether any safety lapses contributed to the tragedy.
