Parliament Monsoon Session to Begin: Samal Urges Cooperation, Vande Mataram Bill on Agenda
The monsoon session of Parliament is set to begin tomorrow, with Odisha BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Manmohan Samal calling for constructive cooperation among members.
He emphasised that Parliament sessions involve significant expenditure, urging MPs to act responsibly and engage in meaningful debate.
Samal noted that opposition proposals are welcome, but consensus is crucial for progress.
The Women’s Reservation Bill is expected to be discussed, with its passage hinging on cross‑party support.
He added that the BJP and NDA will take joint decisions, while backing from BJD would be accepted.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce the Vande Mataram Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
The bill seeks to provide legal protection to the national song, prescribing penalties of up to three years’ imprisonment, fines, or both for intentional disrespect or obstruction.
This move follows recent directives mandating the playing of “Vande Mataram” before official events.
