Over 7,000 Applicants Vie for 125 Home Guard Posts in Koraput, Many Highly Educated

Koraput,  — In a striking display of the growing demand for government employment, over 7,282 candidates have applied for just 125 Home Guard positions in Koraput district.

The recruitment drive, which requires only a Class 5 education, has attracted a wave of overqualified applicants, including graduates and postgraduates.

The written examination was conducted at the Government DAV College field on Sunday, lasting 90 minutes.

Officials reported an overwhelming turnout, with middle-aged women outnumbering male candidates—a trend attributed to the recent salary hike for Home Guards, making the role more financially appealing.

Koraput Superintendent of Police Rohit Verma expressed satisfaction with the turnout, noting the need for educated personnel in the force.

“We conducted a one-and-a-half-hour written test and are now calculating attendance figures. Results will be declared soon,” he said. The age eligibility for applicants ranges from 20 to 60 years.

The recruitment process will now proceed to the next stages following evaluation of the written test results. The surge in applications underscores the fierce competition for even entry-level government jobs in Odisha.
