Orissa High Court Orders Arrest of Cargo Vessel MV Densa Lion Over Unpaid Dues

Paradip,  — In a significant legal development, the Orissa High Court has ordered the arrest of cargo vessel MV Densa Lion at Paradip Port following a petition filed by Waypoint Port Services Ltd. The company claims unpaid maintenance dues amounting to Rs 42.72 lakh for services rendered to the ship.

The vessel, which had arrived at Paradip to load iron plates, is currently docked at the PICT berth. Acting on the court’s directive, port authorities have detained the ship, which will remain anchored until further instructions are issued in the next hearing.

This incident adds to a growing list of commercial disputes at Paradip Port. Over the past year, more than four vessels have faced similar legal action, with several released after settling dues through court-mediated resolutions.

Legal experts highlight that such arrests fall under admiralty law, which empowers creditors to secure claims against foreign vessels operating in Indian waters. The outcome of the upcoming hearing will determine whether MV Densa Lion can resume operations or remain under detention.
