Orissa High Court Grants Bail to Two Student Leaders in FM College Suicide Case, Rejects Pleas of Senior Officials

Bhubaneswar, October 23: In a significant development in the Fakir Mohan Autonomous College suicide case, the Orissa High Court on Wednesday granted bail to two student leaders—Jyotiprakash Biswal and Shubhra Sambit Nayak—who were accused in connection with the tragic death of a female student.

However, the court rejected the bail applications of Sameer Sahu, Head of Department, and Dillip Ghosh, the college principal.

The case stems from a harrowing incident in which a female student allegedly set herself on fire on campus, citing sexual harassment by a senior faculty member.

She succumbed to her injuries on July 14 at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, sparking widespread outrage and prompting arrests of senior college officials.

The High Court clarified that bail applications filed post-chargesheet will be considered on merit. The ruling marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing investigation, which has drawn attention from civil society and state authorities alike.
