Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Sept 20: Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik called for a court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe and a judicial inquiry into the incident at Bharatpur police station, where the fiancée of an Army officer was allegedly assaulted and sexually harassed by police personnel. This demand follows Captain Gurvansh Singh Gosal’s fiancée’s harrowing account of her experience at the police station, where she claimed to have been stripped, kicked in the chest, and molested.
In a post on X, Naveen condemned the incident, stating, “The treatment of an Army officer and his fiancée at Bharatpur Police Station is shocking and incomprehensible. The alleged actions of the police have shaken the conscience of the nation. This happened to a serving Army officer and a woman in Odisha.”
He expressed his expectation that the BJP government would take decisive action against those responsible. “Under our government, we implemented the Mo Sarkar initiative, where the Chief Minister, Ministers, and Senior Officers engaged with citizens to gather feedback on their experiences in government offices, including police stations and hospitals. This people-centric initiative has been abandoned by the BJP government, and the consequences are evident,” he remarked.
Naveen also criticized the current government’s reluctance to act against the governor’s son in a serious assault case, suggesting it has emboldened misconduct. “I continue to urge action against the Governor’s son. I demand a court-monitored SIT probe and a judicial inquiry into this serious incident involving an Army Captain and his fiancée,” he concluded.
