Odisha Voter List Revision Exercise to Start October 26, Political Parties Asked to Cooperate
Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC) of Odisha has stepped up preparations for the 2027 Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections by initiating a comprehensive voter list revision process across the state.
The decision was discussed during an all-party consultation meeting held in Bhubaneswar under the chairmanship of Madhusudan Padhi.
During the meeting, representatives of recognised political parties shared their suggestions regarding electoral roll management and election preparedness.
The Commission emphasised the importance of maintaining a transparent, accurate, and error-free voter database to ensure free and fair elections.
As part of the exercise, a statewide door-to-door voter verification survey will commence on October 26.
Election officials will visit households to verify voter details, enrol eligible new voters, remove duplicate entries, delete names of deceased voters, and update changes in residential addresses or other personal information.
The SEC has also urged political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at all polling stations.
These agents will assist in monitoring the voter verification process and help maintain transparency throughout the revision exercise.
Political parties have been asked to submit the names of their designated BLAs to the concerned authorities by October 15.
Addressing the meeting, Madhusudan Padhi stressed that a credible electoral roll forms the foundation of fair elections.
He appealed to political parties, administrative officials, and voters to cooperate with the Commission during the voter list revision process.
Representatives of various political parties assured the Commission of their full cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of the voter verification and electoral roll update exercise.
The voter list revision drive marks the beginning of Odisha’s preparations for the crucial 2027 Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections, with the SEC focusing on creating a robust and inclusive electoral framework.
