Odisha Vigilance Strikes: Ex‑ASI Gets 3 Years for Bribery
Phulbani: In a significant judgment against corruption, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani, has convicted former Assistant Sub‑Inspector (ASI) of Police, Nabin Kumar Satpathy, in a bribery case.
Satpathy, who was serving as Court ASI at Deogarh Court after his tenure at Kiakata Police Station in Angul district, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant.
The bribe was sought in exchange for providing undue assistance in a case under his investigation.
The case was registered as Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No.12 dated July 25, 2023, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
After the trial, the court sentenced Satpathy to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000.
Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority to dismiss Satpathy from service following his conviction.
The ruling underscores the state’s commitment to cracking down on corruption within law enforcement.
This conviction follows similar vigilance actions in Odisha, including a recent case involving a former NESCO Junior Engineer, highlighting the government’s intensified drive against bribery and misconduct in public service.
