Odisha Urban Bodies on High Alert as Cyclone ‘Montha’ Approaches
As Cyclone ‘Montha’ edges closer to the Odisha coastline, the state’s Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Department has activated a comprehensive emergency response across all urban areas.
Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra has cancelled leave for all officers involved in emergency duties and instructed field officials to remain stationed at their headquarters around the clock.
Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have been mobilised to identify waterlogging-prone zones, deploy manpower and equipment, and ensure timely drainage of stormwater. Cyclone shelters are on standby with provisions for cooked food, safe drinking water, and emergency supplies.
Sanitation teams and diesel generator sets are being readied to maintain essential services.
“The safety and well-being of citizens is our top priority,” said Dr. Mohapatra, emphasising the urgency of preventive and relief measures.
Principal Secretary Usha Padhee has directed all Commissioners and Executive Officers to strictly follow departmental guidelines and coordinate seamlessly with the State Emergency Operations Centre.
The H&UD Department continues to monitor the situation closely, aiming to minimise disruption and safeguard urban populations as Cyclone ‘Montha’ intensifies
