Odisha Unveils Bridge Repair Policy, Fast-Tracks Rs 50 Cr+ Infrastructure Projects
(OT Webdesk)In a decisive move to accelerate infrastructure development, Odisha’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has launched a comprehensive Bridge Repair Policy and fast-tracked projects exceeding Rs 50 crore.
The announcement came during a high-level review meeting at Lokseva Bhawan, where officials were directed to ensure timely completion and uphold quality standards.
The policy aims to systematically maintain critical infrastructure, while a Road Repair Policy is also in the pipeline.
The minister emphasised the adoption of modern technologies, including AI-driven systems like WAMIS and OSWAS, to streamline workflows and boost efficiency.
Key projects under review include bypasses in Brahmapur, Khordha, and Nayagarh; the Matiapada ROB on Puri-Konark Road; bridges over the Baitarani and Tel rivers; and ring roads in Brahmapur, Cuttack, and Puri.
Enhancements around Maa Sarala and Chandi temples, along with sports facilities in Nayagarh, Balasore, Jharsuguda, and Jajpur, were also prioritised.
Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh urged engineers to move beyond traditional methods and embrace digital-first practices.
The minister expressed concern over contractors outsourcing work and ordered investigations and strict action against violators.
Senior officials and construction agency representatives attended the meeting, reinforcing a collaborative push toward Odisha’s vision of becoming a developed state by 2036.
