Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today) : Feb 4: A state-of-the-art 500-bed trauma centre will soon be established at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack city to provide immediate and advanced medical care to accident victims. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the proposal, marking a significant step toward enhancing emergency healthcare infrastructure in the state.
According to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the trauma centre will be developed under the Central government’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’ (PMSSY). Under this scheme, the Centre will contribute 60% of the funding, while the state government will bear the remaining 40%. The initiative aims to strengthen Odisha’s capacity to handle critical trauma cases more efficiently.
To expedite the project, CM Majhi had earlier written to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, seeking approval for the facility at SCB Medical College. After receiving in-principle approval from the Central government, the Odisha government has now given its final nod.
A detailed project report (DPR) will be prepared soon, following which further steps will be taken for the establishment of the trauma centre, ensuring better emergency medical services for the state’s citizens.
