Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Sept 10: On Tuesday, the Odisha Assembly was informed that the state government plans to launch five major drinking water projects in the Delang area of Puri district.
Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Minister Rabinarayan Naik shared this update in response to a query from Pipili MLA Ashrit Patnaik. The projects will utilize water from the Daya River.
As part of the initiative, a reservoir will be constructed on the Daya River to store water for efficient use, Naik announced.
The Minister criticized the previous state government for allegedly obstructing the implementation of the Centre’s water resources plan, which led to delays in several projects. He noted that due to delays in preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), many projects are now expected to be completed only by 2026.
Additionally, the government is working on converting saline sea water into potable water as part of its broader strategy to address drinking water needs.
