Odisha Speaker Surama Padhy Showcases Democratic Initiatives at Commonwealth Conference
Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy showcased the state’s initiatives to strengthen democratic institutions and legislative practices at the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Commonwealth Countries, held at Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi.
The high‑profile gathering, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and presided over by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, brought together parliamentary leaders from 78 nations to deliberate on ways to reinforce democratic values and enhance legislative efficiency.
Representing Odisha, Speaker Padhy emphasised the state’s commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and efficiency in legislative processes.
She highlighted reforms undertaken by the Odisha Assembly to modernise its functioning, improve accessibility, and deepen democratic engagement.
Accompanied by Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Rout, Padhy’s participation underscored Odisha’s proactive role in sharing best practices and contributing to the global dialogue on strengthening parliamentary institutions.
