Odisha SI Recruitment Scam: CBI Intensifies Probe With Fresh Interrogations

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has stepped up its inquiry into the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment scam, marking a significant development in the case.

On Friday, four individuals appeared before investigators at the agency’s Bhubaneswar office after being summoned for questioning.

According to sources, the CBI had issued summons to ten people, but only four complied.

The interrogation, which began around 3 pm, continued until late in the night, concluding at approximately 11:30 pm. All four were released after the session, including one candidate previously arrested by the Odisha Crime Branch and currently out on bail.

The probe follows the Government of India’s November 11 notification authorising the CBI to investigate alleged irregularities in the SI recruitment process.

The case involves serious allegations of exam data manipulation and unauthorised access to digital systems used during the recruitment test.

Before the case was transferred, the Odisha Crime Branch had arrested Shankar Prusty, head of Panchsoft Technologies, and interrogated several suspects. Prusty was apprehended near the Indo-Nepal border after weeks of evasion.

Investigators had also sought court approval to conduct polygraph tests on Prusty and another accused, Suresh Chandra Nayak, owner of Silicon Tech, after both reportedly gave contradictory statements.

The CBI is now expanding its scope, focusing on digital evidence, communication logs, and records linked to private software firms involved in the online examination process.

Six more individuals who received summons are expected to appear today as the agency deepens its investigation into insider involvement and possible financial transactions tied to the scam.
