Odisha Police SI Exam Scam: CBI to Remand Key Accused Shankar Prusty and Muna Mohanty

Bhubaneswar, November 29, 2025 — The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment exam scam, moving to take two prime accused—Shankar Prusty and Muna Mohanty—on remand.

The development comes after four other accused, who had been on a three-day remand, were sent back to Jharpada Jail in Bhubaneswar as the CBI did not seek an extension.

During proceedings in the Special CBI Court, officials described Shankar Prusty as a habitual offender with multiple prior cases of job-related fraud.

The recruitment exam has been under scrutiny following widespread allegations of irregularities and corruption, with investigations revealing links to an interstate criminal network spanning Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and other states.

So far, 120 individuals have been arrested, of whom 114 have been granted bail by the Special Vigilance Court.

Recognising the gravity of the scandal, the Odisha Chief Minister had earlier transferred the case from the Crime Branch to the CBI to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation.

The CBI is expected to file an application soon to secure remand for Prusty and Mohanty, aiming to uncover deeper details of their involvement in the racket.
