Odisha Police Rescue 83 Turtles, Arrest Two Smugglers in Nabarangpur

In a major breakthrough against wildlife trafficking, authorities in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district rescued 83 live turtles during an anti-smuggling operation.

Acting on intelligence inputs, police intercepted two individuals attempting to transport the turtles illegally.

The rescued turtles were immediately handed over to forest officials for safe rehabilitation.

Officials emphasised that the operation highlights the growing threat of wildlife smuggling in the region and reiterated their commitment to protecting endangered species.

Wildlife experts note that turtles are often targeted by traffickers due to demand in illegal pet and food markets.

The successful rescue underscores the importance of coordinated action between law enforcement and forest departments in curbing such crimes.
