Odisha Police on High Alert Ahead of October 15 Student Union Elections

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police has intensified security arrangements across the state ahead of the upcoming student union elections scheduled for October 15, with senior officers directed to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to maintain law and order.

According to the report, Director General of Police (DGP) Binaytosh Mishra chaired a comprehensive security review meeting through video conferencing and instructed police officials to ensure peaceful and violence-free elections across educational institutions.

During the meeting, the DGP emphasised the importance of proactive policing and directed district police administrations to identify sensitive campuses and potential trouble-prone areas well in advance.

Authorities have been asked to keep strict surveillance on anti-social elements and individuals who may attempt to disrupt the electoral process.

Police officers have also been advised to work in close coordination with college authorities and local administrations to prevent any untoward incidents before, during, and after the elections. Security deployment will be carried out based on local assessments and the sensitivity of individual institutions.

The DGP further instructed officials to take immediate legal action against those involved in election-related violence or disturbances.

Special attention will also be given to the post-election period to prevent clashes and retaliation among rival student groups.

Senior officers, including Director (Intelligence) R.P. Koche, ADG (SAP) Rajesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Police Narasingha Bhol, along with Range IGs, DIGs and Superintendents of Police from various districts, participated in the review meeting.

The Odisha Police reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparent, democratic and peaceful student union elections, stressing a zero-tolerance approach towards campus violence and unlawful activities.
