Odisha Police Launch Statewide Crackdown on Illegal Cattle Mafias

In a massive operation on January 17, 2026, Odisha Police carried out simultaneous raids across Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, and Jajpur districts to dismantle illegal cattle trading networks.

The coordinated action targeted 46 locations and involved two Additional SPs, five DSPs, 25 Inspectors, 36 Sub-Inspectors/ASIs, and 18 platoons of armed forces.

One of the most high-profile raids took place in Bhadrak, where police stormed the residence of alleged cattle mafia kingpin Sheikh Tajuddin alias Rajan.

Authorities seized over Rs 70 lakh in cash, gold ornaments, and documents linked to a shopping mall. Rajan, who faces multiple cases of cattle smuggling in Keonjhar, is considered a central figure in the illegal trade.

Officials confirmed that the crackdown is among the largest anti-cattle smuggling operations in recent years.

With raids still ongoing, police expect further seizures of cash, vehicles, and properties connected to the mafia network.

The operation underscores Odisha Police’s commitment to curbing organised crime and safeguarding law and order in the state.
