Odisha on Alert: Enhanced Security and Queue System Introduced for Durga Puja
Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the recent stampede at a Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata, the Odisha Police have intensified crowd management and security measures across major Durga Puja venues in the state to ensure the safety of devotees.
Senior police officials have directed Durga Puja committees, particularly in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, to implement a queue-based darshan system to regulate the movement of visitors and prevent overcrowding.
Authorities have emphasised the need for strict adherence to safety protocols as thousands of devotees are expected to visit pandals during the festive season.
To strengthen public safety, additional police personnel and volunteers have been deployed at prominent pandals.
Entry and exit points are being closely monitored, and authorities may temporarily restrict entry if crowd density exceeds safe limits.
Police have also enhanced surveillance and emergency preparedness measures.
Mobile patrol teams, anti-snatching squads, anti-eve-teasing units, and special striking forces have been positioned at strategic locations.
Puja organisers have been instructed to install CCTV cameras and maintain adequate volunteer support for smooth crowd movement.
Traffic management has been tightened around major pandals, with restrictions on four-wheelers on narrow approach roads to minimise congestion.
Ambulances and fire service personnel have also been stationed near key venues to respond promptly to emergencies.
The administration has urged the public to celebrate responsibly, cooperate with traffic and security personnel, avoid reckless driving, and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media that could create panic or disturb public order.
The enhanced arrangements reflect Odisha’s proactive approach to preventing incidents similar to the Kolkata tragedy and ensuring a safe and peaceful Durga Puja celebration for all.
