Odisha Leaders Laud Shirish Murmu’s Appointment as RBI Deputy Governor
Bhubaneswar, Sept 29 — Odisha’s pride soared today as Shirish Chandra Murmu was appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), effective October 9, for a three-year term.
Murmu, who previously served as Executive Director at RBI, was widely praised for his integrity, competence, and deep understanding of India’s financial architecture.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the chorus of congratulations, calling Murmu’s appointment “a matter of pride and honour for all Odias.” He emphasised Murmu’s proven track record and expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen India’s financial system.
Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida echoed the sentiment, highlighting Murmu’s journey of public service and institutional excellence.
Singh Deo noted that Murmu’s elevation “reaffirms Odisha’s growing contribution to national leadership,” while Parida expressed faith in his ability to “contribute meaningfully to India’s financial governance.”
Other ministers, including Rabi Narayan Naik, Mukesh Mahaling, and Prithiviraj Harichandan, also extended their best wishes, invoking blessings from Mahaprabhu Jagannath for Murmu’s success and resilience in his new role.
Murmu’s appointment is being celebrated not just as a personal milestone but as a symbolic moment for Odisha’s increasing representation in India’s top financial institutions.
