Odisha Launches QR Code Pattas to End Land Fraud

In a landmark move to strengthen transparency in land administration, the Odisha government, in collaboration with the Centre, will soon embed QR codes on land pattas.

The initiative aims to curb fraudulent property transactions and safeguard citizens from exploitation.

The QR codes will store complete ownership records, settlement details, and transaction history spanning decades. By simply scanning the code, buyers, landowners, and officials can instantly verify the authenticity of a patta.

Fraudulent attempts will trigger automatic alerts to Tehsildars and Revenue Inspectors, eliminating the need for separate encumbrance certificates.

Officials believe this reform will drastically reduce forged documents and fraudulent land sales, while also streamlining monitoring and dispute resolution.

Citizens will benefit from verifiable pattas that build trust in the revenue system and ensure secure property transactions.

This digital reform marks a significant step toward modernising Odisha’s revenue services and enhancing public confidence in governance.
