Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), May 31: The Odisha Public Health Director has announced a thorough investigation into the deaths occurring in Sundargarh, Odisha. Postmortems will be conducted on all deceased individuals, he confirmed.
In a distressing incident, 14 individuals lost their lives within a mere ten-hour period in Sundargarh district, Odisha, sparking widespread panic among locals. Tensions ran high at the Rourkela Government Hospital, where several individuals from different parts of Rourkela City were rushed on the afternoon of May 30 after suddenly falling ill. Unfortunately, 11 of them passed away within eight hours of undergoing treatment. The bodies have been placed in the hospital mortuary.
Dr. Sudharani Pradhan, the CMO in-charge of the hospital, emphasized that the exact cause of death could only be determined following completion of the postmortem examinations. While it is suspected that severe heatwave conditions in the area may have contributed to the deaths, further investigation is necessary.
Rourkela ADM and Panposh Sub-collector visited the hospital to assess the situation. Five individuals have been transferred to private hospitals for further treatment, while nine remain under treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital. Additionally, six truck drivers died in Jharsuguda, with severe summer heat suspected as a possible cause of death.
