Odisha Health Dept Fortifies Medical Infrastructure Ahead of Cyclone Montha
Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: As Cyclone Montha approaches the Odisha coastline, the Health and Family Welfare Department has activated a comprehensive emergency response plan to safeguard public health.
From remote field-level centres to tertiary medical institutions, the state’s healthcare infrastructure is being reinforced with critical supplies, manpower, and 24×7 control systems.
District hospitals and medical colleges have been instructed to maintain close coordination with Chief Medical Officers to ensure uninterrupted services.
Emergency services—including 108/102 ambulances, mobile health units, and rapid action teams—are now linked to centralised control rooms for swift deployment.
The state has stockpiled over 3.71 crore paracetamol tablets, 1.87 crore ORS packets, 3.82 crore zinc tablets, 1.75 crore halogen tablets, 3.02 lakh anti-snake venom injections, and 67.04 lakh bleaching powder packets. Blood units, oxygen cylinders, and trauma kits are also in place across district hospitals and blood storage centers.
In anticipation of water- and vector-borne diseases, awareness campaigns and medicine distribution drives are being rolled out in vulnerable districts.
The Odisha Health Department’s proactive stance aims to ensure that cyclone-hit communities receive timely and adequate medical support.
