Odisha Govt Signs MoU with NIEPID to Empower Persons with Intellectual Disabilities
Bhubaneswar: In a landmark step towards inclusive education and empowerment, the Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD), Government of Odisha, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID).
The three‑year agreement (January 16, 2026 – January 15, 2029) aims to strengthen early identification, rehabilitation, and community support for persons with intellectual disabilities (PwIDs) across the state.
Under the MoU, NIEPID will provide curriculum frameworks, digital learning content, and training modules for special educators, caregivers, and frontline workers.
The collaboration also includes joint research, documentation of best practices, and awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and promote inclusion.
A Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) will oversee implementation, monitor progress, and ensure accountability.
The partnership is expected to enhance Odisha’s inclusive education ecosystem and align with the state’s broader commitment to equitable development.
Officials emphasised that the initiative will not only improve access to quality education but also empower families and communities to support PwIDs more effectively.
