Odisha govt seeks explanation from OCA over floodlight failure at Barabati Stadium

Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today) Feb 10: The Mohan Majhi government has sought an explanation from Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Sanjay Behera regarding the floodlight malfunction that caused a 30-minute disruption during the India-England ODI at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium on February 9, 2025.
The Sports & Youth Services Department stated that one of the floodlights was off during the second innings, leading to inconvenience for players and spectators. The OCA has been directed to submit a detailed report identifying the responsible persons or agencies and outlining preventive measures within ten days.
The incident was particularly embarrassing as Odisha was hosting an ODI after six years. Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, who was present along with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and other ministers, confirmed that an explanation was being sought despite prior precautions.
OCA secretary Sanjay Behera explained that a generator failure led to the issue, and efforts to switch to a backup were delayed due to a vehicle blocking access. Authorities are now investigating the lapses to prevent future occurrences.
