Odisha Govt Schools to Offer +2 Classes with ₹140.74 Cr Support

The central government has approved Rs 140.74 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan to expand higher secondary education in Odisha.

A total of 71 government high schools will now introduce +2 classes, marking a significant step in strengthening access to senior secondary education across the state.

Out of these, 60 schools will open Arts streams, while 11 schools will add Science streams.

The plan includes new classrooms, laboratories, and teaching facilities to support the additional classes.

District‑wise, Ganjam leads with 12 schools selected, followed by Malkangiri (6), Nabarangpur (5), Balasore (5), and Balangir (5).

The Odisha School Education Programme Authority has formally communicated the approval to the School & Mass Education Department, attaching financial details and district‑wise lists.

This expansion is expected to improve educational opportunities for thousands of students, particularly in underserved districts.
