Odisha Governor Stresses Culture as Driver of Economic Growth

At the 5th Cultural Economic Conclave 2025 in Ahmedabad, Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati underscored the inseparable link between culture and economy.

He highlighted how India’s traditions—festivals, temples, crafts, and performing arts—have historically shaped ethical conduct, sustained livelihoods, and powered prosperity.

Dr Kambhampati pointed to Odisha’s vibrant cultural identity, where thirteen festivals across twelve months strengthen families and support artisans.

He cited Jagannath culture, Odissi dance, Sambalpuri handlooms, Raghurajpur crafts, tribal heritage, and the Bali Yatra maritime legacy as examples of traditions that continue to fuel entrepreneurship and employment.

Praising national initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he noted that heritage cities, museums, pilgrimage circuits, and craft hubs are creating new opportunities for cultural entrepreneurship.

Looking ahead, the Governor emphasized three priorities: protecting heritage, nurturing creative industries for dignified livelihoods, and fostering ethical economic behavior rooted in Indian values.

He concluded with a vision of a nation where culture and economy uplift one another, reaffirming Odisha’s commitment to contribute meaningfully to this national mission.
