(OT webdesk)In a landmark move to bolster student safety, the Odisha government has announced the installation of CCTV cameras in all schools across the state.
School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond confirmed the initiative, stating it will follow the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) model.
The decision aims to create secure learning environments, particularly for girl students, and aligns Odisha’s educational infrastructure with national safety standards.
Minister Gond emphasised that the surveillance system will serve as a deterrent to misconduct and foster greater accountability within school premises.
Additionally, the government has mandated the formation of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in every school.
These committees will be responsible for investigating harassment-related cases and ensuring swift, appropriate action by school authorities.
This dual approach—technological surveillance and institutional accountability—is expected to build trust among parents and provide students with a safe, supportive space to thrive.
