Odisha Forest Department Deploys Mini Drones to Prevent Summer Wildfires
Bhubaneswar: As Odisha braces for the upcoming summer season, the Forest Department has rolled out a proactive strategy to combat forest fires by deploying mini drones across vulnerable forest zones.
Officials confirmed that 20,461 fire lines have already been created to contain potential blazes, while surveillance cameras have been installed in Similipal and Rourkela to monitor fire-prone areas.
The drones will provide real-time aerial monitoring, enabling forest staff to respond swiftly to any outbreak.
To strengthen community participation, the department has issued a helpline number (18003457158), urging citizens to report fire incidents immediately.
Awareness campaigns are also being conducted in villages near forests to encourage cooperation in fire prevention.
Authorities have warned of strict action against individuals who deliberately set fires, stressing that intentional burning severely damages biodiversity and ecological balance.
By combining technology, vigilance, and public involvement, Odisha aims to minimise the risk of devastating wildfires and safeguard its rich forest ecosystems during the peak summer months.
