Odisha Fire Services Respond to Dozens of Emergencies, Avert Major Loss in Panposh Market Fire

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Fire & Emergency Services demonstrated remarkable efficiency and dedication by responding to multiple emergencies across the state within a span of 24 hours, including a major fire incident at Panposh Daily Market in Sundargarh district.

The most significant operation involved a fire outbreak at Panposh Daily Market, where personnel from Panposh and Rourkela Fire Stations rushed to the scene and successfully contained the blaze.

Their timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining shops and commercial establishments, minimising property damage and averting a potentially larger disaster.

According to official figures, Odisha Fire & Emergency Services attended 29 fire incidents across the state during the last 24 hours.

Teams also responded to eight road accident calls, rescuing seven individuals safely.

In addition, firefighters handled six drowning incidents. Rescue teams managed to save one person, while four bodies were recovered during operations conducted at various locations.

The department’s efforts extended beyond fire and accident response.

Personnel carried out one dewatering operation, attended 61 animal rescue calls, and successfully rescued 59 animals.

Teams also removed 12 fallen trees and road obstructions, helping restore normal traffic movement and public safety.

Furthermore, five miscellaneous rescue operations were conducted, resulting in the safe rescue of six people.

The latest operations underscore the crucial role played by Odisha Fire & Emergency Services in protecting lives, property, and wildlife.

So far this year, the department has rescued 8,308 people and 16,555 animals across the state, highlighting its growing contribution to emergency management and disaster response.

Officials credited the coordinated efforts of fire personnel and rapid deployment mechanisms for the successful handling of emergencies throughout Odisha.
