Odisha Excise Department Cracks Down on Illicit Liquor and Narcotics: 902 Cases, 511 Arrests in Four Days
In a sweeping crackdown across Odisha, the Excise Department has intensified its enforcement against illicit liquor and narcotics, registering 902 cases and arresting 511 individuals between September 1 and 4.
The operations led to the seizure of contraband worth Rs 13.91 crore, underscoring the state’s aggressive stance on drug and alcohol-related crimes.
Among the major busts were 29 NDPS cases, resulting in the confiscation of 320 kg of ganja and 560 grams of brown sugar. On September 4 alone, authorities registered 254 cases, arrested 148 suspects, and seized illicit goods valued at Rs 1.39 crore.
The haul included 84 kg of ganja, 194 grams of brown sugar, 13 kg of bhanga, 840 kg of mohua flower, and 22 vehicles.
A notable breakthrough came from the Flying Squad, which intercepted 194 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 20.4 lakh in a single operation—highlighting the department’s precision and vigilance.
Officials reiterated their zero-tolerance policy and commitment to public health and safety.
The Excise Department confirmed that such operations will continue to ensure law enforcement integrity and curb the spread of illicit substances across the state.
