Odisha emerging as key player in India’s international trade landscape: Governor
Bhubaneswar, Aug 2 (UNI) Odisha’s renowned handlooms, handicrafts, and GI-tagged products, which reflect the state’s rich cultural heritage, hold strong potential for success in global markets, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati said today.
Speaking at the World Trade Day event organised by the World Trade Centre Bhubaneswar, the Governor emphasised that with proper branding, efficient logistics, and strategic marketing, these unique products can establish a strong presence in international markets.
He praised the event’s theme, “Odisha – Eastern India’s Economic Engine,” calling it timely and appropriate.
Governor Kambhampati highlighted that Odisha is steadily emerging as a vital player in India’s international trade landscape.
With its abundant natural resources, strategic coastal location, progressive policies, and rapidly improving infrastructure, the state is well-positioned to play a significant role in global commerce.
He noted the importance of enhanced air connectivity from Biju Patnaik International Airport, which now offers direct flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
This advancement, he stated, has opened new avenues for exporting high-value and perishable goods.
The Governor also pointed out that multimodal connectivity, cold chain systems, air cargo infrastructure, and government support for MSMEs are transforming Odisha into an increasingly attractive hub for trade and investment.
Highlighting recent developments, he mentioned that Odisha has begun exporting agricultural products like drumsticks, pointed gourds, and Amrapali mangoes to countries including the UAE,
UK, France, Belgium, and Italy—an indication of the state’s growing export capabilities in the agriculture sector.
Describing international trade as a “transformative force” that generates employment, drives innovation, and fosters prosperity, Kambhampati noted that India’s rise as the world’s
fourth-largest economy is rooted in trade reforms, global partnerships, and a strong domestic economy.
He urged all stakeholders to contribute to building a Vikshit Odisha by 2036 and a Vikshit Bharat by 2047.
He also commended the dedication of exporters, MSMEs, and trade facilitators working to connect Odisha with the global economy.
