In a decisive push for cultural and sports development, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed officials to fast-track the completion of the state’s largest auditorium, ‘Kalamanḍal’, by May 2026.
The announcement came during a high-level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan, where the CM emphasised timely delivery and future scalability of the Rs 73 crore project.
Located near Bhubaneswar’s Sainik School, the Kalamanḍal complex will feature a 2,000-seat main auditorium and a 500-seat open-air theatre, making it a premier venue for government programs, conferences, and cultural showcases.
Developed by the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), the facility is expected to become a cultural landmark in the capital.
Majhi also reviewed plans to transform Kendujhar into a hub for sports excellence. Six major projects were discussed, including:

- A football stadium with integrated gaming facilities at Kali Padia
- A state-of-the-art swimming pool at DN High School
- An archery academy at Narangpur
- A 100-bed hostel for handball players in Kendujhar town
These initiatives aim to nurture grassroots talent and provide world-class training infrastructure for athletes.
The meeting was attended by key dignitaries, including Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, Principal Secretaries Sashwat Mishra and Sanjiv Mishra, and senior officials from the Sports and Culture departments.
