Odisha CM Reviews Major Redevelopment Plans for SCB Medical College
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi chaired a high‑level review meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan to assess ongoing and upcoming healthcare infrastructure projects across the state.
The spotlight was on the redevelopment of Sriramchandra Bhanj (SCB) Medical College in Cuttack, Odisha’s largest medical institution, which serves thousands of patients daily.
A landmark decision was taken to construct a 17‑storey (G+16) multi‑level parking facility on 6.51 acres of land at SCB.
The structure will provide parking up to the 12th floor, easing congestion for visitors to SCB and the adjacent Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer.
The upper floors will house administrative offices, the anatomy department, and pharmacy colleges.
To enhance student well‑being in line with the National Education Policy 2020, recreational facilities such as indoor games and a swimming pool will be developed.
The CM also reviewed progress on 13 housing towers near SCB, which will provide 672 residential units and hostel accommodation for 2,244 students.
Redevelopment works at Berhampur and Burla medical colleges were also discussed.
The Panikoili Trauma Care Centre is set to be operationalised under a Public‑Private Partnership mode, with priority given to central government PSUs experienced in hospital management.
Plans to construct rest houses for patient attendants across seven government medical college campuses were finalised.
The meeting was attended by Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary Saswata Mishra, Health Commissioner Aswathy S., NHM Director Dr Brunda D., and other senior officials.
