Odisha CM Mohan Majhi to Skip Durga Puja Pandal Visits Amid Flood Crisis
Bhubaneswar: Mohan Charan Majhi, the Chief Minister of Odisha, has decided not to visit any Durga Puja pandals or mandaps during this year’s Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations, choosing instead to observe the festival in a subdued manner as a gesture of solidarity with flood-affected people across the state.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the decision comes in the wake of widespread damage caused by recent floods and incessant rainfall in several districts of Odisha.
The state has witnessed significant losses to agriculture, property, and livelihoods, with farmers among the worst affected sections.
The Chief Minister’s decision is being viewed as a symbolic expression of support for thousands of families struggling to recover from the impact of the disaster.
By keeping Dussehra celebrations low-key, the government aims to convey its commitment to standing with affected citizens during a challenging period.
Odisha has experienced multiple spells of heavy rainfall linked to weather disturbances during the monsoon season, resulting in flooding, crop damage and disruption of normal life in several regions.
The state government has already undertaken damage assessments and announced relief measures to assist affected communities.
While Durga Puja is celebrated with great enthusiasm across Odisha every year, the Chief Minister’s decision underscores the administration’s focus on rehabilitation and relief efforts for flood-hit families.
