Odisha CM Lays Foundation Stone for RS 451.24 Crore Water Supply Project in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday laid the foundation stone for an Rs 451.24 crore water supply project aimed at providing 24×7 safe drinking water to residents of Sambalpur city.
The ambitious project, taken up under the AMRUT 2.0 mission as part of the “Drink From Tap” initiative, will cover all 41 wards of Sambalpur and benefit nearly five lakh residents.
As part of the plan, 340 km of pipelines will be laid across the city, along with the construction of one intake well and two modern water treatment plants — a 65 MLD plant for Sambalpur and a 35 MLD plant for Burla.
Once operational, the system will deliver 100 million litres of treated water daily, directly to households without the need for additional filtration.
The project is expected to resolve Sambalpur’s recurring water crisis, particularly the 30 MLD shortfall during the summer months.
Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi emphasised that the initiative would permanently address the city’s drinking water challenges and significantly improve the quality of life for residents.
The foundation stone ceremony was attended by senior ministers, MLAs, and district officials, marking a major step toward sustainable urban infrastructure in western Odisha.
