Odisha CM Launches Free HPV Vaccination Drive for 3.36 Lakh Girls

Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today flagged off the statewide HPV immunisation programme at Krushi Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national campaign launched from Ajmer, Rajasthan.

The initiative aims to vaccinate nearly 3.36 lakh girls aged 14–15 years across Odisha within three months, protecting them against cervical cancer.

In the first phase, vaccines will be administered at community health centres, sub-divisional hospitals, and district headquarters hospitals, followed by primary health centres in the second phase.

Despite a market cost of Rs 4,000 per dose, the vaccine will be provided free of charge under government schemes.

The programme is part of the Mukhyamantri Cancer Treatment Program, announced in the 2026–27 budget, which also includes awareness drives, village-level screenings, and mobile health camps.

Odisha will additionally benefit from 121 cancer treatment packages under Ayushman Bharat and Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.

To strengthen emergency response, the CM flagged off 28 new 108 ambulances, raising the state’s fleet to 428 vehicles with an investment of Rs 111 crore.

Majhi described the initiative as a mission to empower women and build a healthier Odisha, echoing the national vision of “Healthy Women, Strong India.”
