
Odisha CM condemns gang rape of Odia medico in Durgapur; urges Mamata to ensure strict action
Bhubaneswar, Oct 11 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today strongly condemned the tragic gang rape of an Odia medical student in Durgapur, West Bengal, and urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to ensure exemplary legal action against the culprits.
Taking to social media platform X, Majhi expressed deep anguish over the incident, describing it as “extremely condemnable and deeply painful.”
“I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear this news. In this sensitive matter, I strongly urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, @MamataOfficial, to ensure exemplary legal action against the accused,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister also prayed for the speedy recovery of the victim and said the Odisha Government would extend every possible support to her family.
Majhi has directed senior state officials to coordinate with the West Bengal Government and take all necessary steps in the matter.
According to reports, the victim, a second-year medical student and a resident of Odisha, was allegedly abducted and raped by unidentified men on Friday night after she had stepped out of her college campus with a male classmate for dinner.
The assailants reportedly surrounded the duo, abducted the woman, and took her to a nearby forest where one of them allegedly raped her.
Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the incident.
