Odisha Cabinet Greenlights ₹8,000 Crore for Development Initiatives
Bhubaneswar, June 6 (OT Webdesk) – The Odisha Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has approved four key projects, marking a significant step toward urban transformation, agricultural improvement, and technological advancement.
The four projects include:
- Chheligada Multipurpose Medium Irrigation Project: With a budget of ₹151.78 crore, this initiative will construct a 266-meter concrete dam in Gajapati district to irrigate 6,260 hectares across Gajapati and Ganjam districts. It also aims to enhance the drinking water supply in Berhampur, promote fisheries and livestock farming, and generate 36 MW of hydroelectric power.
- Mukhyamantri Sahari Bikash Yojana (MSBY): This ₹6,000 crore urban development scheme, running from 2025-2030, focuses on revenue-generating infrastructure like vending zones and EV charging stations, along with environmental efforts such as afforestation and rainwater harvesting. Over 5 lakh skilled and unskilled workers will benefit from employment opportunities.
- Development of Biotechnology Scheme: Approved with ₹1,113.50 crore in funding, this program aims to bolster Odisha’s biotechnology sector by enhancing academic research, incubating startups, commercializing biotech products, and applying biotechnology innovations in agriculture, medicine, and industry.
- Land Allocation for Narcotics Control Bureau: In a move to strengthen law enforcement infrastructure, the Odisha Cabinet has exempted ₹2.60 crore in land premium to allow for the construction of a new Narcotics Control Bureau building in Bhubaneswar.
These projects collectively align with Odisha’s Vision 2036, a blueprint for economic and infrastructural advancement across the state. The government’s commitment to irrigation, biotechnology, and urban growth signals a promising future for Odisha’s development.
